Complex textures, gritty crunch, beautiful sustain and character. It’s all there waiting for you to discover with the Sputnik IIb. As with all Spaceman pedals, the Sputnik fuzz series is an homage to the golden era of electronics and is brimming with vintage soul. Utilizing NOS Soviet-era germanium transistors and diodes, the Sputnik IIb shares the harmonic richness and wild nature of vintage germanium fuzzes from the past, but in a new circuit with its own unique voice.
Characteristic of germanium fuzzes, all of the controls are quite interactive and a shockingly wide variety of sounds can be observed with experimentation. RANGE controls the gain of the fuzz, while the BASS toggle switch allows for three levels of bass response: (•) Original; (+) More; and the new (-) Less bass. The FILTER switch selects between three different voices for the CALIBRATE control, which adjusts the tone with an uncommon sweep.
The footswitch actuated DRIFT mode adds a level of corruption to the otherwise mild-mannered Sputnik IIb, resulting in oscillation, pseudo-octaves, 8-bit artifacts and more. Adding a layer of control to this double personality is the SCAN control, which acts a squelch control to either tame or unleash the wild unpredictability of the Drift mode.
